Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Dayspring different from other private schools?
As a Christian School, a Bible class is taught every day and a Biblical perspective is integrated into every subject.  Our small class sizes create a “family” atmosphere where students and teachers alike take time each day to share and pray about their joys and concerns. We seek to help students become life-long learners in an environment that encourages excellence. “Whatsoever you do, do it heartily as unto the Lord and not unto man.” (Col.3:17)

How long has Dayspring been in existence?
Since its inception in 1995, Dayspring has grown quickly and steadily. Now, with more that 70 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, Dayspring students benefit from an outstanding faculty and staff, challenging bible-based curriculum, small class sizes, computer and technology instruction, music, and athletics, all founded in our tradition of academic excellence grounded in solid biblical doctrine.

What do Dayspring students wear to school each day?
Dayspring students wear a traditional uniform that consists of navy pants and white or yellow shirt for boys and a plaid jumper or kilt and blouse for girls.  Studies have shown that students in schools that adhere to a standard uniform policy perform better academically and are less likely to judge others by outward appearance.

What are the qualifications of your teachers?
All of our full-time teachers have earned at least a Bachelors Degree in Education or related field, while some have achieved Masters Degrees.  Teachers are required to be actively involved in a church and be born-again believers, demonstrating a relationship with Jesus Christ.  It is our practice to hire teachers who are not only committed to excellence, but who have a desire for each of their students to reach their full academic and spiritual potential.

What tuition and fees can I expect to pay at Dayspring?
Tuition for the current academic year is $5,300 for full-day Kindergarten, $4,700 for hal-day Kindergarten and $6,350 for 1st through 8th grades.  A non-refundable application fee of $75 must accompany a signed enrollment application. Once your child has been accepted, a non-refundable enrollment fee of $255 will be required to confirm your child’s enrollment.  An annual lab fee of $175 is required of Secondary students (grades 6-8) to cover supplies for science experiments.  This fee is due by September 1.  Before and after care programs are also available for an additional charge.  Tuition discounts are available for 2nd and 3rd children within a family that attend Dayspring.

What are the school hours?
Children may be dropped off to the warm greeting of Dayspring teachers beginning at 8:15 each morning.  The school day begins promptly at 8:30am and ends at 3:15pm.  Students who may require before school care can be dropped off at 7:30 a.m. for a fee of $75 per month.  After school care until 6:00 p.m. is available for $175.00 per month.

Does Dayspring Offer Financial Assistance?
Financial assistance enables Dayspring to enroll qualified students who may not other wise have access to a private Christian school education.  We are committed to providing access to deserving students and to this end we offer financial assistance to qualified families.  Within the constraints of limited funds, we desire to make a Dayspring education possible for every student who is offered admission.
Decision about admissions and financial assistance are made separately.  After an applicant is recommended for admission, parents that wish to apply for financial assistance must submit required personal financial documents combined with the request for assistance.  Strict confidentiality is always maintained.  Following review, a decision will be made regarding the level of financial assistance that may be offered by Dayspring.  Financial assistance commitments are reviewed annually, and if a family’s situation remains the same form year to year, Dayspring will make every effort maintain our commitment to your familiy.

What is taught in Bible classes and Chapel?
The curriculum currently used in the classroom is from the Association of Christian Schools International of which we are a member school.  As a non-denominational school with students who attend various churches, we follow the guidelines set forth in the ACSI Statement of Faith, which is included in this packet.

Do you offer any extracurricular activities?
As part of its regular curriculum, Dayspring students receive instruction in Art, Vocal Music, Physical Education and Computers each week.  After-school clubs also offer students an opportunity to participate in activities that interest them, including; Running Club, Scrapbooking Club, Writing Club, and The 4-C, a community and school service club.  Some students attend the campus based, Trinity Arts Academy for private instrumental music lessons.

What is your discipline policy?
Good behavior is expected of all students. Learning is best achieved in an orderly, respectful environment and it is our policy to work closely with parents to ensure that students understand the standard of excellence that is expected of Dayspring students.  Behavioral issues are monitored and addressed closely and are communicated  to parents and appropriate consequences agreed upon.  Under no circumstances will a student be reprimanded with physical discipline in any form or with verbally abusive language.

Is the school a member of any organizations?
Dayspring is a member of the Association of Christian School International, The Mid-Atlantic Christian School Association and holds a Certificate of Approval from the Maryland State Department of Education.  As such, we meet or exceed their standards for non-public schools.

What is your policy regarding volunteers?
Dayspring would not exist without the support and efforts of the parents and volunteers that make up the Dayspring family.  As such, we welcome the gifts and talents that our families have to offer the school.  While a preset number of volunteer hours are not specified, we expect that each family will support school activities throughout the year.

How is the school funded?
Dayspring is fully funded by tuitions and donations.  Several fundraisers are held during the school year and contributions in the way of gifts, scholarships and general donations are needed in order for us to continue to offer our excellent program.  All financial gifts to Dayspring are tax deductible.

Are you Tax Exempt?
Dayspring is incorporated in the state of Maryland and has obtained 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service.

Where do Dayspring students go to High School after graduation?
Students leaving Dayspring are well-prepared and have been accepted at some of Baltimore’s finest schools.  Dayspring alumni are currently attending Mt. St. Joseph’s, Calvert Hall, Baltimore Lutheran and several area public schools.
